Michael Wins a Bet

We're in Salt Lake City adapting to our environment. The ice is fast, the skaters seem to like it and are adapting to it very well. They are also adapting well to the altitude and dry environment and showed it today in their quick lap times during training. Things are moving in the right direction for this team as we prepare to race on Friday.

Things are also looking up for Michael Gilday as he won a bet just yesterday which landed him some nice cash. (Most of it mine). Jessica Hewitt started to dare Michael to run through a water fountain, offering him $5 if he did it. Jessica Gregg jumped in with $5 and my big mouth offered whatever I had in my pocket. (It turned out I had $32 US and $15 Cdn)
Upon hearing this Michael jumps at the chance and asks Jeff Scholten to pull the van over so he can take us up on this bet.
...
Let me take you back to the end of last season, during which Michael and I had a bet about what lap time he would hit during the last exchange of a 5000m relay. He lost that bet and it landed me a nice home made lasagna, delivered to my door by Michael.
More recently, you may have read on Michael's blog that it was a bet (which he lost while qualifying for world cups - a good one to lose!) that got him rolling on the creation of his blog.
...
So back to Salt Lake City. If you can picture it, Michael leaping out of a van, with his shirt off already and heading towards this rather large fountain. A woman on the street is yelling at him to "take off his pants too!" Well, the shoes came off but the pants stayed on.

Here's Michael winning (earning) his cash!

video

He won his bet, won his cash and had to explore some of the Salt Lake City countryside with pants as wet as if he jumped in a pool.

Luckily he also had some great teammates to keep him warm in the van ride after his water show!

Looks like he has a terrific coach and team-mates too. The results from today suggest a close look at the Oval program is in order! Something good is happening out there.
