One Step at a Time

Now that the hype and excitement of the Vancouver World Cup has begun to fade into memory, it's time to refocus. The media attention is focussed on what's to come in 2010 and it can be difficult to keep a grasp on the short-term goals. Even though we're only 461 days from the opening ceremonies, this is not yet the final sprint. There is time to be patient and it's even more important to keep to the plan.

In 14 days the Canadian team will be traveling to Asia for the next set of World Cups. In order to be better prepared we have to take a look at the parts of the plan that are important right now. We're reevaluating races from the first set of World Cups to analyze our strengths and weaknesses. We're looking for ways to win.

We've also taken the training plan to the next step. Progressing the physical, mental and emotional preparation of our skaters. It's a time of the season where the skaters can take a short break from the intensity of competition and put their energy into the little things. After all, it's the little things that usually make the big difference!

We have some great results from the first World Cups, which brings confidence that podium results are possible. Now it's necessary to use that as a springboard for improvement at each event this season. By proving that we can repeat podium performances we will show that we are podium contenders at the Olympics.

The short-term goals, implemented step by step, will make possible the dream. Keep your eyes on each step. Keep your heart on the dream. Believe in the plan.
