The women skated fantastic, maintained composure and advanced to the A-Final by winning the semi-final. They will be up against Japan, Italy and the United States.
Jessica Gregg skated some very smart 1000's to get herself into the B-Final. With a 2nd place finish she earned herself the 6th rank for the distance. It was a step in the right direction for her racing strategy and execution to be competitive in the semi's and finals. She is showing the ability to adapt and learn from her past world cup events.
Jessica Hewitt was en-route to a great showing the semi-final 1500m when she bumped with another skater and went down. It was at a point in the race where she was ready to make a move and attack. She has adapted well from her past experience and adjusted her racing to match.
Marie-Eve Drolet made her re-introduction to the World Cups a positive one with a 2nd place finish in the B-Final 1500m. She was just shy of making the A-Final and adapted quickly and effectively from race to race in order to finish well in her final.
Meanwhile back in Canada, Gabrielle Waddell has discovered she will join the Canadian team at the University Games! She joins Tyler Derraugh, Liam McFarlane and Richard Shoebridge from the Calgary training centre. This is going to be a great opportunity for them to gain experience at a high level competition and participate in a mult-sport games.
Tomorrow here in Sofia, the 500m and 1000m(2) will take place along with the Relay Finals. In the words of Marie-Eve: "I smell gold!"
