Worlds Fastest 500m - Liam McFarlane

At the Calgary Olympic Oval short track competition on October 10th, Liam McFarlane skated the fastest time ever recorded in the 500m. He won with a time of 40.572. He beat the previous World Record of 41.051 which is still held by Sung Si-Bak of Korea. McFarlane's time will not count as a World Record because the competition was not ISU (International Skating Union) sanctioned. This was the similar fate of Cory Rasmussen in the past when he skated below the World Record on the Olympic Oval ice.

Their are currently 4 skaters that have skated faster than the World Record while on Calgary ice. Canadians Liam McFarlane, Cory Rasmussen and Francois Hamelin as well as Wim De Deyne of Belgium.
