Behind the scenes for me, Short Track Day 3

My role for yesterday's short track events was more supportive in nature as Jessica Gregg was not competing in the 1500m event. Tania Vicent, Valerie Maltais and Kalyna Roberge were up against some tough competition and the results were mixed. So often they are in short track.

Kalyna advanced cleanly through the quarter-final and found herself in a difficult semi-final. Not impossible by any means, especially for someone as skilled, as fast and agile as Kalyna. Unfortunately her 1500m's came to an end when she kicked a block and found herself in the mats. Certainly not a result indicative of her ability.

Valerie also ended her day in the semi-final but it was her quarter that was the nail-biting and riveting race. Her comeback to overtake the last qualifying position at the finish line was classic and exciting short track!

Tania was the top woman for Canada of the day making the A-Final in amazing style. She raced with heart and used her experience to navigate a wild semi-final. The A-Final had 8 women due to advancements and proved to be the fastest Olympic 1500m ever! Congrats Tania on a great set of 1500's!

Both Canadian men entered in the 1000m, the Hamelin brothers, earned their way to the A-Final medal race. Up against 2 Koreans and Apolo Ohno, it was a tough final as expected. Charles and Francois posted 4th and 5th places respectively, just missing out on the podium. A result that is grand in achievement in the big picture but also difficult to accept when coming so close to achieving their goals. Great competitors they are and they'll be up to try and prove it again in the coming days.

1500m women's long track is happening today and I'm going to watch it live!
Go Canada Go!
