I got the chance to bump into some familiar faces today at the rink. The home field advantage we keep talking about is not just about access to facilities and familiarity with the environment. It's about the people. It's the fans in the crowd that cheer us on and help us to do the work we do. It's the abundant volunteers that are readily available to help things run smoothly. Even more importantly, it's the familiar faces we see in the volunteer outfits and and in the crowd. You know you're at home and well supported when the people you work with everyday, or the people you grew up with are right there to offer a helping hand.
At the rink with Mick Kiddle, the #1 ice making genius from the Olympic Oval in Calgary.
On ice with Al McIlveen, a coach from Calgary, who's in charge of the track stewards for our short track competition & training.
With a high school friend from Ottawa, Steve Brown, who's come to be a part of the security force that will keep us safe at the Games. And these are just a few of the familiar faces that I've bumped into so far here in Vancouver. And familiar or not, everyone is ready with a smile and a good luck wish for the Canadian team!
