Opening Ceremonies 2010

The opening ceremonies were amazing. An experience that brought me excitement, goose bumps and a positive emotional boost for these Games. Even the buildup as we were preparing to march into the stadium was incredible. The behind-the-scenes volunteers were cheering and pumping us up with high-fives and heart pounding chantings of "CANADA!"

We had a brief staging in GM Place where we waited to be organized into our proper order for the march.

With Jessica Gregg at the staging area in GM Place

As we walked under that stands in BC Place, they posted the following message in memory of the fallen luge athlete that passed away in training...

A somber moment for all and a reminder that life is precious. We are very fortunate to do what we do and to be able to participate in the Olympic Games. It's not to be taken for granted or to be taken lightly.

I loved many parts of the opening ceremonies. Not sure what was my favorite. I'll leave you with a few images that give you a look at the ceremonies from my point of view!

With Jeroen Otter, a coach for Belgium (and Latvia, Austria, New Zealand, Isreal and arguably - Canada!) We work together in Calgary.

As close as I could get to the Vancouver Olympic Flame! Unfortunate that it didn't work properly for the ceremonies, but impressive none the less!

Citius! Altius! Fortius!
